Harrogate Autumn Show- Hall M is now full!

Hall M is now full after a large increase in the number of bookings and reservations for the new Harrogate Autumn Fair. A further 12 companies have signed up in the last week including Emma Jane, Babywise Mattress Factory, Hippychick, Baby Nova and Opus Innovations.  They join over 60 more exhibitors including leading brands Britax, Dorel, Chicco, Petite Star and Gro Company.

The Launchpad, the brainchild of the BPA and now featured at Harrogate Nursery Fair, is expanding quickly in Hall C and offers retailers the opportunity to seek out new, innovative and exclusive products. Visitor registration also indicates strong interest from buyers across all industry sectors. Please visit the website to reserve your free ticket: www.nurseryfair.com

Harrogate Nursery Fair’s leading March show is on track for another record event with more exhibitors and registered visitors at this stage than ever before. We will provide more details in the next issue.

Free Party in Harrogate this Autumn... why would you want to be anywhere else?!

Harrogate’s infamous party is set to continue this Autumn... and the drinks are on us!  It’s a great chance to network with leading industry figures in a lively and informal setting.  Details will be announced shortly.

UK Pavilion at Kind +Jugend

There are only three remaining stands on the UK Pavilion.  Join thirty other companies on the Pavilion and don’t get lost in the crowd!

Please contact Christel Davidson from the BPA as soon as possible to snap up one of the last spaces and take advantage of huge visibility and additional benefits the Pavilion can offer you.  Phone: 0845 456 9570 or email: christel@b-p-a.org

European Nursery Federation

The BPA are playing a major part in the formation of the European Nursery Federation.  We are hosting a meeting in London on 27th July with representatives from France, Italy and Spain. A presentation on the most effective methods of lobbying Brussels will be made by Interel, a consultancy with extensive experience in this field.

The BPA is also hosting the annual gathering of European safety experts involving representatives from the European Commission at end of August.

BPA Concept & Innovation Awards

Thank you for entries to this year’s Concept & Innovation Awards. We have been impressed by the number and high calibre of entries.

The first stage of judging will be completed by 16th July.  A shortlist of entrants will then be invited to attend a Dragon’s Den style presentation to a panel of industry experts in August. The overall finalists will be invited to attend Harrogate Nursery Fair’s Autumn trade event.

UK Trade & Investment’s Tradeshow Access Program

Were you aware you may be eligible for assistance to exhibit at Kind und Jugend from UK Trade & Investment?

The Baby Products Association has been granted accredited status to work with the Tradeshow Access Programme (TAP) from 1 April 2011.  The accreditation means the Association will be responsible for organising UK applications to Kind und Jugend next year and applying as a group, which will make the funding process easier for UK companies.

Please inform the BPA as soon as possible if you plan to apply for TAP support next year as we need to inform UKTI late July of the number of eligible companies that we anticipate will require TAP support in 2011.

Standards Update

Please be advised that the following standard has been corrected via corrigendum:

BS EN 60335-1:2002+A2:2006 - Household and similar electrical appliances. Safety. General requirements. This covers electrical household appliances, household equipment, electrical safety, protected electrical equipment, electrically-operated devices, domestic safety, and rated voltage.

This is available on request, free of charge to past purchasers.

It is BSI policy for every standard to be reviewed by the technical committee responsible not more than 5 years after publication, to establish whether it is still current and, if it is not, to identify and set in hand appropriate action. The following standards have been confirmed as current:

BS EN 597-1:1995 Furniture. Assessment of the ignitability of mattresses and upholstered bed bases. Ignition source: smouldering cigarette

BS EN 597-2:1995 Furniture. Assessment of the ignitability of mattresses and upholstered bed bases. Ignition source: match flame equivalent

BS EN 1130-1:1997 Furniture. Cribs and cradles for domestic use. Safety requirements

BS EN 1130-2:1996 Furniture. Cribs and cradles for domestic use. Test methods

BS EN 1334:1996 Domestic furniture. Beds and mattresses. Methods of measurement and recommended tolerances

BS EN 1725:1998 Domestic furniture. Beds and mattresses. Safety requirements and test methods

New work has started on the following standards, although publication of any amendment is likely to be some way away:

BS EN 716-1:2008/Amendment 1 Furniture. Children's cots and folding cots for domestic use. Safety requirements

BS EN 716-2:2008/Amendment 1 Furniture. Children's cots and folding cots for domestic use. Test methods

If you have any questions regarding any of the above, please call Julie James on: 0845 456 9570 or email julie@b-p-a.org.
